Many different assembly technologies may be used depending on the application. The equipment used for automation automatic assembly system may include conveyors, lifts, pick and place equipment, marking equipment, vision systems, pallet transfer systems, palletizers, testing equipment, high speed assembly, and flexible assembly equipment. High-speed assembly systems are used for high-volume production. Flexible assembly systems are of modular construction to allow for future expansion or process refinement.

Motion controller components range from
ON/OFF devices with simple linear controllers
to complex, user programmable modules that
act as controllers within complex integrated
multi-axis motion systems. The motion control
system includes design, selection and integration
of bearings and bushings, clutches and brakes,
controls and drives, drive components, encoders
and resolvers, integrated motion control,
limit switches, linear actuators, linear
and rotary motion components, linear position
sensing, motors, orientation position sensing,
pneumatics and pneumatic components, positioning
stages, slides and guides, power transmission
(mechanical), seals, slip rings, solenoids,
springs, etc.
Drives are the functional interfaces between controllers and motors. Speed controllers are available for AC, DC, stepper motors and servo motor. Drive components and power transmission include a wide spectrum of gears, locknuts, and other couplings that are used to secure shafts or transmit power throughout drive systems in additional to roller chains, belts and belt pulleys, shaft collars, ratchets and pawls, sprockets, and universal joints.
